The silhouette of a horse against the morning sky

There was plenty of ice about this morning and the heath men were out in force with their salting machines, making sure the walking grounds and canters were all safe for use. There was a big red sky as well, which is always marvellous to look at, but doesn’t bode well for future day’s weather. Just a normal morning of exercise and all has gone well so far.

I see the BHA are going to examine the Barney Curley coup that happened this week and go back into the form of the horses involved. I don’t think they will find too much, it was just a well executed day. Keeping these horses all this time will have cost quite a lot of money. The little bit they got back from placing them correctly and having a bit of a bet will have helped, but I am not sure that they won as much as the bookmakers are saying. It makes for great excitement though and it is much better than the mundane boring racing we have day in day out during the winter.

Crystal Pearl back in residence

It’s a good weekend of racing coming up, with a big day at Cheltenham tomorrow. The ground will be on the easy side, which shouldn’t cause too many problems. Let’s hope they escape most of the rain. There is also a very good day at Doncaster on Saturday, although I think the ground will be on the sticky side rather than soft. We have then got the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday to enjoy, so all in all a great weekend to look forward to. Plus Sheffield Wednesday is away to Rochdale in the fourth round of the FA cup, which must be the highlight of any weekend.
