Our first foal arrived on Saturday

Astrovirtue leading the two-year-olds

It is overcast and pretty cold this morning because of the wind that is blowing across the heath, but as yet no rain and I don’t think we are going to get any today. However, I am afraid there is a band coming across the Atlantic and we are going to get hit again at least twice this week. I ventured out onto the heath this morning with some of the two-year-olds, who took to it like a duck to water.

Dutch Art ex Sosumi getting a well deserved pat down the neck

Our first foal of the year arrived on Saturday night. A very attractive compact colt by Aqlaam to Twelfth Night. She is a brilliant mother with very good colostrum and the foal was skipping about very quickly. It is great to get started once again. It is amazing how quickly it comes round. It only seems like yesterday we were foaling last years ones. There are several others who are not far off and I will keep you informed of progress.

Twelfth Night and her new foal

I hope everybody enjoyed the video of Des over the weekend. If you have not watched it, you should do so as it is certainly worth a look. We attach the link again. The mares we sent over have arrived safely and will be visiting the stallions when they have had all their veterinary work done and the season starts on February 15th. I have one or two mares available at present, either for sale or free, and if anybody is interested in anything, from half a mare upwards, please give me a ring to discuss the matter further.

You may have problems getting into this link, but please persevere, it is well worth watching.

For those of you who have watched the above video you will have seen Des giving Theola a pat in the winner’s enclosure at Chester. She was bred by Des and Mariann and they have her as a broodmare at home now. We had many great days with the filly and she won the Cesarewitch trial here at Newmarket and, but for a slight injury, would have taken all the beating in the big race itself.  She was not very big but had the heart of a lion and could really quicken at the end of the race, even after two miles. Very fond memories.
