"It is not enough for a man to know how to ride; he must know how to fall."

Mexican Proverb.

My Guardian Angel leading the group

It’s a mixed morning weather wise once again, with sunshine and showers but no real wind, which keeps the temperature up. We have had a normal cantering morning with everything and the two-year-olds are now starting to get the idea well. Hopefully we will be getting on the grass hill in the not to distant future, which always helps with the conditioning work.

I went to Garrowby this week to have a good look round, especially at the two-year-olds which are going to come into training in Newmarket in the next few days. They are all well grown and strong and we need to start showing them the heath now as quickly as possible. They have had an unbelievable amount of rain up there and as everybody with any sort of livestock knows, the paddocks are taking a real hammering at present. The one great thing about Garrowby is that the grass grows very quickly there and it is very good soil, so as soon as the dry and warm spring arrives, it will get back to its normal lush self.

Having a roll

We have one or two mares that we would like to find good homes for. They could continue to breed nice horses or would make good riding horses. If anybody is interested, please give us a ring in the office or send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for further details. It is no fault of the mares themselves, who are lovely, but circumstances have meant new homes will have to be found for them. Both are good rides, not too big and are very kind and genuine.
