"It is easier to go down a hill than up, but the view is best from the top."

It’s a dull overcast morning and there has been a heavy dew, which I found to my cost as I walked across Bury Hill towards Warren Hill in just my casual shoes. Wet feet all morning. After the busy morning yesterday, it has just been a normal cantering day and things continue to go well. It won’t be long before we start to have some runners, which I can’t wait for. Although our team of horses is a bit smaller this year, it is very select and a good season is expected. I will be doing my best, as usual, to give every owner a visit to the winners’ enclosure, I hope more than once.

The mares and their new foals have really enjoyed the last few days of sunshine and warmth, as you can see from the photos on today’s site. They are really getting into the spirit of things. This years crop all look strong and healthy and we have a few more to go yet. There is a batch due towards the end of April and we are at long last starting to get a few back in foal. I think six or seven at the last count have been tested in foal. It is amazing how quickly it all goes round.

The ground at Aintree looks like it is going to be on the easy side of good, which will be perfect. I am sure it will be another very successful few days. The crowds are always so enthusiastic and it is always a completely unique event. It will be interesting to see how the TV viewing figures stack up, compared with last year, after the Cheltenham ones have diminished.
