''When I bestride him, I soar, I am a hawk: he trots the air; the earth sings when he touches it; the basest horn of his hoof is more musical than the pipe of Hermes.''

First lot in indian file, coming up Warren Hill

The soap opera continues:  it is an even hotter day today and very close and muggy. Thank goodness we were only having a one canter morning and a pick of grass, which all the horses have enjoyed; they will be having a good swim tonight as well. The frustration you feel at seeing it lashing down at Ffos Las and Ayr is unbelievable - when will we get some rain.

Yarmouth yesterday was like running down the M1. I know the clerk of the course has done his best with the resources available to him: he has left the grass a good length and put a bit of water on but with the combination of the sun and the wind, the ground had no chance. Both our runners hated it, especially the two year old, who got away with fastish ground at Pontefract last time with the uphill climb. Astrodonna got herself into contention on the bridle but once Ashley asked her to let herself down, she looked after herself. Both will drop in the handicap and will win races this year on better ground.

Today we just have one runner at Sandown this evening, Prince Freddie in the 7.10 pm. This looks a very competitive affair but I have always liked this colt and am hopeful of him running with credit.
