"When one has one's hand full of truth it is not always wise to open it."

French Proverb.

There was a good ground frost this morning after a clear night, and it was pretty cold up to second lot. Not that I noticed it much as everything was driving me barmy, whether it be staff, or the myriad of other things which combined to drive me crazy. There are some mornings which never go right and today was one of them. I have calmed down now and I think everybody got the message, or at least let’s hope they did. All the horses are fine and I can’t wait to get them out on the track.

Comrade Bond

Our runner yesterday, Topamichi, pleased me with how he did everything. From his bad draw, he settled in behind and was staying on well, when getting hampered a furlong out. He wouldn’t have been in the first four, but he still ran very creditably and once getting another 2 furlongs, should be competitive again this year.

Cooling down after exercise

There is a good article by Colin Russell in the Racing Post today, which requires reading, especially by the planners at the BHA. They seem to have no idea of where racecourses are situated, as they would not group them together with fixtures on the same day. When you have Fakenham, Yarmouth and Huntingdon all racing at the same time, there is only so many fans to go around and the attendance figures must be greatly reduced at two of the three tracks. It is not rocket science and it doesn’t require anybody with a first class degree, or even an A level, to understand this. But it still happens and until somebody has the brains and the determination to sort it out, it will keep happening.

It's the time of year for some spring cleaning

As you know I am one of the trustees of the Ashley Club in Newmarket. It is going through a redevelopment at the moment, with a gym and treatment rooms being built as we speak. This will bring a much needed facility to all the Newmarket based racing professionals. Anybody involved in the industry, will have full use of the facilities and the professional physios etc to get them back to fitness, or just get fit. We are delighted that the racing foundations, who distribute the government money received from the Tote, are giving us a very good grant to finish the job off. We have had so much help from many people on the financial side, and once it is up and running, it will be a centre of excellence in the middle of Newmarket.

8, 9, 10 coming ready or not

We will not be doing a blog tomorrow, as Di is on a day off. Hope you don’t mind too much.
