It's a warm, muggy, wet morning

"I’d like mornings better if they started later."

Blue Bounty and Astrodiamond

It’s a warm morning but very muggy and we are having some rain as I speak. I think the forecast is for sporadic outbreaks during the day. Cantering on Bury Side has been the exercise, and we have used many of the tracks this morning. We have even managed to avoid the showers as we have gone in and out.

Our runner yesterday ran with credit, although he was a bit keen in the early part of the race and plan B had to come into play. He got tired 1 ½ furlongs out, but kept on well and will improve dramatically for the outing. We have one runner today at Lingfield, Topaling contends the 1m maiden at 2.05. She is out of Topatori who has done nothing but breed winners and I am sure this mare will be adding to it, if not today then in the future. Being by Halling she may need further, but she has showed quite a bit of speed at home and I expect her to run respectably on her debut.

I see the government have bought out new rules for betting shops and their machines. It looks to me like a fudge, with nobody winning or losing, only the Treasury will get a bit more tax from the increase on the machines bought in on the last budget. I don’t think we will see a mass closure of betting shops in the near future, in fact the opposite, as some of the smaller chains will be pushing to expand.

Walking back after exercise

There is an article today in the Racing Post on Garrowby Stud. It is up for lease from July 1st, which is the date I relinquish it from. We are going to consolidate all the stock back at Dullingham, which from a logistical point of view will make life a lot easier. If anybody wants to know anything about the stud and are interested in taking it over, don’t hesitate in giving me a ring. It is the most marvellous, tranquil place for horses and would suit a wide assortment of equestrian usage.
