Two runners today on the all-weather

Wednesday, 04 June 2014

"Work on yourself first, take responsibility for your own progress."

I Ching.

Topamichi (Sam)

It absolutely lashed it down last night; it was rain that was coming straight down, as heavy as I can remember it for a long time. We have had showers continually on and off all morning. We have been out with the horses on Side Hill on the turf, which is in great shape and very seldom used. All the lads were saying how good it was and I was telling them to keep quiet and not tell anybody, or else we would get everybody trying to use it.

Astrovirtue (Tom) leading Hold Firm (Emilie) and Prayer Time (Glenn)

We have two runners today both on the all-weather, but at different tracks. This afternoon at Southwell we run Comrade Bond. He has not run on this surface before and we have to hope he likes it. You never know until you run them on it. He must have a chance if taking to the surface.

Our other runner is Swilken tonight at Kempton. He wants the ground on the fast side and I am fed up with waiting for it to stop raining or the right race to come up where the ground is good to firm. He has run well on all his runs and I am hopeful he can perform well tonight.

My Guardian Angel (Darren)

I went to Garrowby yesterday, to see the yearlings which we may be selling in the sales this autumn. The sales representatives always come round and have a look before deciding which sale would be suitable for each horse. They always look at this time of year, or sooner. It is hard for them to judge, as the horses develop very quickly from now onwards and can change considerably in that time. He seemed to like most of ours, but they always do. It is when the letter comes next week that you begin to know your fate. We are getting really tidy up there now and the horses will be moving down to Dullingham and the yard towards the end of the month.

Cantering up the hill

I see the blue print for ‘British racing and a brighter future’ is out and they are aiming for several points. Let’s hope they can gain every one of them.
