A fantastic week of racing ahead of us

"Enough is as good as a feast."

English Proverb.

Crystal Pearl (Emilie)

It’s an overcast, much cooler morning and although it is forecast to get a bit sunnier later on, I don’t think we are going to see the temperatures we had last week.  It looks set fair to be dry most of the week though, with just the occasional shower.  A typical Monday morning exercise today, with a good warm up, followed by a steady canter. All has gone well so far.

It’s Royal Ascot this week, starting tomorrow, and it looks like being another fantastic few days of racing. I always like the first day, as you have got so many good Group 1’s and in the Queen Anne and St James Palace, you really start to sort out the best miler of the year. I see the Racing Post are trying to highlight the competition between the Maktoums and Al Thani families, plus with the Coolmore hoards, it will be fascinating to see who comes out on top.  This week always throws up plenty of stories though and is a great week just to be involved with.  Unfortunately we don’t have anything to run this time, but the ambition still shines very brightly and we will be doing all we can to have runners for next year and beyond.

Cooling down after exercise

It is interesting to see some new pre-Ascot Horses In Training sales, with its unusual format with the chief buyers all sitting in a hotel in London. It will be fascinating to see whether any new owners are found in this way, but I must congratulate Goffs UK on the initiative.
