Another fresh morning and the weather forecasters tell us we are going to get some rain tonight - let's hope they are correct for once. We have been getting on with some of the more backward two year olds this morning rather than do faster work, as most of the horses are fit and well and do not want much work at present. We just need to keep them ticking over and clean in the wind.

Today we have four runners, one at Thirsk, Astrovenus, one at Haydock, Astromoon and two at Newmarket, Red Barcelona and Watch Chain.
Astrovenus runs in the mile and an half fillies' handicap at Thirsk. She has taken a bit of time to strengthen up this spring but is looking very well at present. I am hopeful of a sound run today and then being able to keep her going with improvement expected this autumn. Astromoon is stepped up in trip at Haydock to a mile and six furlongs. Her dam, Astromancer won at this trip and stayed well, so I think staying will be this filly's forte. The expected rain will help and she, similarly to Astrovenus, can continue on an upward curve. Tonight we run Red Barcelona in the mile and an half handicap. He has run well on several occasions and this year's form of his races has worked out very well, he has grown considerably this spring and is now another ready to start racing in earnest. I am hoping he can handle the Newmarket dip and run well tonight. Watch Chain runs in the finale over 6 furlongs - let's hope they have still got the lights on by then - not just for the band, which follows the last race. He won well last time at Yarmouth under a great ride from Darryll but it is  a different race tonight with not many runners. He is still in good form, is a pound better in than he will be in future handicaps but he is a bit of a law unto himself and it depends which Watch Chain turns up tonight.
