Blue Bounty (Jessica)

What a wet weekend we had. The tail end of Hurricane Bertha brought 64 mm of rain in one fell swoop and we were pumping out the yard to stop it flooding. The soak away drains had no chance at all of dispensing the amount of water that came down and we had to pump it into the main drain. It made for all hands on deck at times. It is a glorious morning although still windy but a much fresher feel and all that mugginess has gone. We have been round Side Hill with the first two lots, both on the grass and polytrack, and all has gone according to plan so far.

Topamichi (Glenn)

Our two runners at Newmarket on Saturday both ran respectably. However, it doesn’t tell you the whole story, as they were both very reluctant to load onto the horsebox and only got there in the nick of time. I put it down to being very fresh and well and just being naughty rather than awkward. Needless to say they will be better next time and both walked straight into the stalls. Both of them got a bit tired in the soft ground but will improve for the experience and we will be getting them out again in two or three week’s time.

What a view

It is a new start today at Wolverhampton with the Tapeta surface and it will be very interesting to see how this rides and what tactics the jockeys start to develop to ride on it. It always looked a front runner’s track to me in Dubai, with the hold up horses always struggling to get into contention. With the way the races are run on the all weather over here, I think it will be very similar, but we will have to wait and see. It is a shame if it is as young jockeys never learn how to ride a race if the races are run like that, and don’t progress at all once on the turf.
