There is a bit of drizzle in the air today, enough to make the ground wet but it won’t change the going. First lot went up Long Hill this morning, and second lot used Warren Hill. They all did just the one canter and everything went to plan, which for a Monday morning is nice to see.

It will be a fascinating Arc this year, with it now being thrown wide open with all strange results at the weekend. If it comes up soft, which it often does in Paris in the autumn, I wouldn’t rule out the St Leger winner, Kingston Hill. I am sure there will still be lots of ups and down, twist and turns until the big day, in a few weeks time.

It’s the official opening of the Astley Club in Newmarket tonight, which is now renamed The Racing Centre. I am expecting a good turn out of the town’s trainers and stud owners, where they can see Ryan Moore open the new gym and rehabilitation unit. We have also got new offices for the stable staff association and racing welfare, plus the new chaplain, Simon Bailey. It will make The Racing Centre the place to go if you need anything in the industry. It has always been about the stable staff since its inception and it is now a state of the art gym, with every facility they can want. I am sure it will be a great success and we, as trustees, will keep on updating it to the highest of standards.
