Horse welfare is paramount ...

What a spectacular filly she has proved to be

Toptempo (Sophie)

It started off a bright sky morning, but it has quickly got overcast and as we write this, it is pouring down and looks set for quite a while. Thank goodness for the indoor ride, as it has kept the horses dry in their preliminary warm up and they have quickly gone out and had a canter on Bury Side. Let’s hope this rain changes the ground everywhere and we can have some runners who will like it.

Topamichi leading the way home

We have two runners today, quite late on in the day at Pontefract, which should help as the ground will have changed by then. Crystal Pearl runs in the 1m 4f handicap at 4.40. She is drawn in the coal mine once again but hopefully will be able to get out and in a good position and I am sure she will run with credit. Our other runner is Astrocat in the 1m maiden at 5.10. She was withdrawn last time at Kempton when the jockey didn’t think she was moving well. She is not the best of movers but is perfectly capable of running today and let’s hope she can show what she can do.

The trees have plenty of berries

It was marvellous to see Treve win the Arc once again and it puts her in the all time great category. A brilliant training performance and show of faith in her filly by Criquette Head who, despite all the doubters, has shown what a great filly she has in her care and what a master trainer she is. Nobody knows as well as the trainer how the horses are. Everybody has opinions but it is the person closest to the animal that knows best and in this instance was proved right in no uncertain manner. The filly spread-eagled the field of very good horses, with a scintillating burst of speed, which settled the race very quickly. It will be really interesting to see who she visits at stud. I am delighted that we have a couple of Motivators, both fillies, to come into training this year. I am not sure they will be anywhere near as good, but you can but dream.
