A very wet and windy day

"For every day that there is sunshine, there will be days of rain,
it's how we dance within them both that shows our love and pain."

It’s another wet and windy morning with really heavy showers, one minute it is absolutely throwing it down and blowing a gale and the next it is still. The temperature has dropped but it’s not really cold and you can still go out in just your small coat. There was a problem this morning on the A14 which meant Newmarket was full of traffic. I think it was the road works which had overrun and consequently it was impossible to get anywhere except on horseback. We kept close to home this morning with canters on Warren Hill.

We have two runners today both at Brighton. Smile That Smile makes her debut in the 3.50, the 1m maiden. I hope she will handle this softer ground as most of her family have done and she should run with credit. Swilken runs in the 4.20 the 1m handicap and we have left everything off him, eye shields etc. His only run on very soft ground was first time out, when he ran poorly, but I don’t think we have anything to lose today by having a go on it. We will have to hope he likes the switch back course.

It is the start of the sales season here at Newmarket today with October 1. We have three days of sales this week followed by a full week next week with October 2 and 3. Supposedly the better pedigrees are here this week. I am sure there will be some very high prices and it more than likely will continue over until the following week. It will be very interesting to see how the whole season goes, both Doncaster and Goffs were up on their average and medians and I suspect Newmarket will be as well.
