Mizzle in the air

Monday, 16 February 2015

"To be without some of the things you want is an indispensable part of happiness."

It's a dingey morning with just a little bit of mizzle in the air. The forecast is for some proper rain to arrive mid afternoon and continue for a few hours, and then I think the rest of the week is supposed to be dry but colder again. So far this morning we have had good canters using the Long Hill polytrack.

We had a excellent meeting with the Chairman and the Chief Executive of the BHA on Friday. I was a bit disappointed to say the least with the turnout of my members, but I had a mixture of senior and younger ones and all the attendees will have benefitted greatly from the discussion. In Steve Harman and Nick Rust I consider we have two individuals who are going to work hard to get our industry back into the correct shape. I think all my members were impressed with them. Although it will not be easy and could still take time, I am hopeful that, if they can get the different sections of the industry together and speaking with one voice, we can make considerable progress.

There is always something to be done

No more foals over the weekend but several of the mares are now much closer to foaling and I'm sure we shall have another one or two on the ground this week. We have already started covering some of the barren mares so the stud is flat out at present.
