After plenty of overnight rain it is a bright sunny morning but cold. As the sun came up we were getting  a slight ground frost. I think that's all the rain for now and it should be a dry week ahead. We had Jimmy and Joe in this morning and took the horses round Side Hill where they did some good work on both the grass and polytrack surfaces. The rest of the string have been on Warren Hill or round the indoor ride.

We have two runners today both at Wolverhampton on the all-weather. Comrade Bond is our first runner at 2.30. He is drawn well in one and I just hope there is plenty of pace on which will help him to settle in the race. He is always quite keen and, if his last run here is anything to go by, he should run well once again. Our other runner is Hold Firm who runs in the last race at 5.10. He is back in trip from his last run, is not drawn too badly in six, and this is the sort of race he should be getting competitive in. On his form of last year, which was above this level, he should do.

Walking in the copse

There's a very good article today by Alastair Down in the Racing Post today on the re-vamped future Champions Weekend. It is well worth reading and it's what we, the professionals, think. The businessmen who run our sport these days know nothing about the horses. They just see each day as a marketing opportunity. Alastair is such a good writer and puts things over perfectly. If I was running TV racing, he would be a permenant fixture on my team sheet.
