Exercising on the Mactrac

It’s a bright, sunny morning with no wind, which is a huge contrast to last night, when it lashed it down most of the night, blowing a gale. The only one good thing is that the temperatures have not been low, although the forecast for the week is for it to get colder from Wednesday onwards. It was one of those mornings this morning, with people calling in ill and the quote “every hand on deck” was never more truer, but I must say everybody has mucked in well and the horses have been getting out and exercised and it’s all running smoothly. If you have cheerful staff, you have cheerful horses.

We have one runner today. Astromajor runs at Wolverhampton in the 5.30, the 1m 1 ½ f maiden. He was slowly away last time on his debut, will know a lot more this time and although I doubt he will have the speed to beat the favourite, he will run much better. The family have all stayed well and I think 1m 4f will suit in time. There is a great story to tell about this horse, which I will do when he wins his first race.

Astrowolf (Veronika)

As I thought, we had a foal on Sunday morning. Astrodonna gave birth to a very nice filly by Havana Gold at 3.40 in the morning, which is never the best of times as you have had a few hours sleep and that’s all. It all went very smoothly though and she was up and sucking very quickly and is now galloping around the box as happy as a lark. Astrodonna was a decent racehorse and we have high hopes for this very good looking filly. I am sure we will have some more news regarding foals, during this week as one or two now are overdue and are looking very near.

It’s the stable lad’s awards tonight and good luck to all the winners and to the ones who made the final list. We, unfortunately, didn’t get any of ours in the final after entering four, but I can assure you they thoroughly deserve to be having a night out and I will be entering them again in the future.
