An overcast day and not much rain overnight

Mystery Star (Ashley) and Dictate (Dan)

''The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.
He may avoid suffering and sorrow,
But he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or live.
Chained by his servitude, he is a slave who has forfeited all freedom.
Only a person who risks is free.''

    Barwick (Colin)

An overcast day and not much rain overnight but it has just started to throw it down now - I am  sure it will only be a short sharp shower. As usual the forecast of a heavy prolonged band of rain, unfortunately, looks like being a long way off the mark. Good healthy canters for the horses this morning and everything still going smoothly.

     Locum (Zezhavz)

Yesterday's runners failed to trouble the judge. Both two year olds pleased me, as Colzium will improve tremendously and Toparichi is now handicapped. Fasette will be seeing a flight of hurdles as soon as possible and I am not sure what to make of Red Barcelona, as I thought he would run better than that. Akula looked like he wants a lot further and we will ride him differently next time. Quite a lot of food for thought.

Astroleo (Michelle) and Astroverdi (Zezhavz)

Five runners today, starting with Ted Spread in the Voltigeur at York. They have only had a sprinkling of rain overnight, which is disappointing, as he loves that softer surface but I have got him really well and hopefully he can run a good race today, as a prep for the St Leger. I think staying will be his forte. At Brighton this afternoon we have three runners. Munro's Dragon runs in the 7 furlong maiden and he was clueless at Newmarket first time out, only realizing what it was all about very late on. The track today will give him another good education of ups-and-downs, bends and cambers and I think he is the shape that could handle it. Power of Dreams runs in the mile handicap, which cannot be a very good race as he is top weight and he has been castrated since his last run, so let's hope the operation works the oracle. He has the ability to get involved. Astrovenus completes the trio in the mile and an half handicap. She was never in the contest last time ay Thirsk and I am hoping that with stronger handling today, it may bring about the required improvement. To complete the hand of runners today, Ice Magic runs tonight at Kempton who, after his first initial good run at Leicester, was disapointing next time which I put down to the ground but he is related to Polytrack winners and I expect him to perform with credit.

Battery Power (Ashley) and Cat Island (Nicki) set off at the bottom of Long Hill

If any of you watched the match last night, Manchester United v's Newcastle, it only goes to show and should show to the modern sports' people of today that working hard and being sensible, rather than wanting the celebrity culture, brings you more adulation than the rubbish we have to read on a daily basis. The performance of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs was an example to all.
