"Without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable."

George Bernard Shaw.

It’s slightly overcast, but the forecast is for it to become much brighter later on and with no wind, it is just the perfect working day. All the horses have been cantering on the Rubbing House polytrack on racecourse side and everything has gone well so far. We got several horses in last week who have had six weeks out at grass and they all came back looking in fantastic condition and have now started back into fitness.

I see there is a bit of a furore about Adam Kirby at Ascot, when he got into a bit of a barging match from the start of the 1m 4f race. I think this is six of one and half a dozen of the other and I call it race riding. It used to happen a lot more years ago and was soon sorted out. I don’t think it is worth everybody getting so upset about, as it was not dangerous and was just purely tactics.

We were talking last night about starting to wean the foals from the mares and it is amazing how quickly this time of year comes round. With quite a few foals born in January and early February they are now four or five months old already. I think in another month’s time we will start the process.
