Another cracking morning

Carol makes sure that all the horses have enough clean bedding in the fillies' yard

MHT watches Astrolibra, Theola and Dulcie work on the 'Summer Gallop'

Another cracking morning, the temperature is absolutely perfect, a good dew and everybody is in good spirits. A very mixed first and second lot with horses going in every direction, doing different things. A few went over to Racecourse Side and came round the Summer Gallop, where I worked round the bend today and finished towards the top of the town - it was something different. We then took a few two year old colts to Railway Land and did a good exercise there; they are really starting to shape up and will all be appearing on the track in the next month or so.

No luck with the runners yesterday but Akula ran better than of late, in a race that was not run to suit him and a step up in trip again would help. Cornish Quest ran with credit once again but the draw was a major disadvantage; however, he is now handicapped and, if his mark is not too bad, he should be winning soon.

Barwick (Ashley), Colzium (Maria) and Comrade Bond (Liam)

Two runners today with Red Barcelona running at Brighton in the 4.00 pm race, where I have fitted blinkers on him, just to make him concentrate and he is not without a chance. Astromoon runs in the 2 mile handicap at Lingfield at 3.20 pm and, hopefully, she will like this ground better than the very heavy she ran on last time at Haydock; she is another I would expect to perform better today.

Star Commander (Zezhavz), Old Boy Ted (Nicki) and Astroverdi (Dan)

Just an update on our runner in the St. Leger, Ted Spread, who I cannot have in any better form. He looks an absolute picture, is moving and working as well if not better than he has done all year but the weather forecast for the next ten days is not in our favour. So, would all fans of Flint Cottage have a word with 'him upstairs' and ask him if he can arrange for it to pour on Doncaster all next week?
