Oh what a beautiful morning

Its blue sky everywhere this morning with a slight breeze and the temperature is perfect. We have been cantering on Southfield's round with all the lots today. It really is a good facility this canter as it is 4 ½ furlongs round and you can canter as short or as far as you wish. The only one problem is anticipating what the other strings are doing as you can often get two or three different yards on the same canter.

The big news this morning with headlines on the front of the Racing Post is that the two big TV suppliers, SIS and Racecourse Media Group, are to merge into a partnership. Now why this has happened is anybody’s guess, but it certainly looks to me as if the racecourses will benefit from a lot more income. I just hope it goes into prize money and is not lost in their general expenses or they invest in other things. There must be a good motive behind all this as it looks like SIS will be the main distributor. I suppose we will have to wait and see how it all pans out. There is so much going on at present, what with the bookmakers amalgamating, the BHA putting up their costs and now this TV merger. The landscape of British Racing is changing, but which way is hard to predict.

Cantering finished now for a cooling walk round

It’s the appeal against the St. Leger demotion today and there will be a lot of hot air talked on both sides until a verdict is reached. I have said before, the win at all cost attitude of jockey nowadays in big races is causing these problems and we need somebody strong at the top to sort this matter out once and for all.
