There has been plenty of spending going on

"If instead of a gem, or even a flower, we should cast the gift of a loving thought into the heart of a friend, that would be giving as the angels give."

George MacDonald.

Cooling down after first lot

A bright sunny morning greeted us today and although there is a little nip in the air, it is a perfect morning to get on and do our normal routine. We have been using Hamilton Hill for one or two canters and everything has gone smoothly so far. There is plenty of choice of canters on racecourse side and all the horses seem very content on which ever one I choose.

It was a disappointing day yesterday at Nottingham. The ground was very soft and holding, but it is the same for them all. Mr Turner went into the stalls with the aid of a hood and travelled well for a long way, but the soft ground was certainly against him. The Nottingham ground is renowned for being very holding and I used to have an owner who would never let me run his horses there as he thought the ground was terrible. As for Topamichi, I am at a loss to come up with any reason for him running like he did and I don’t think it will be too long before he’s out again.

Comrade Bond

October 1 continues at a pace with the big owners spending fortunes. There were four million pound horses yesterday with the top making £2.1 million. This sale never ceases to amaze me, but I notice the average was down yesterday as well as the median. I am sure studies will have been done on how these horses historically have done over the years, but when you are paying figures like this, you will never see a return unless they win a Group 1.
