Careless Rapture and Topaling walking on Hamilton Hill

It’s another very wet morning although it is not pounding down, it is that fine wet rain which just constantly keeps coming. It’s been a busy morning so far with horses going in all directions and we also had a new horse arrive last night from the sales. The exercise of the morning has been a good trot and then a canter on Hamilton Hill and all has gone well so far.

We have one runner today at Wolverhampton. Hold Firm runs in the 4.40 and I just hope he gets the luck he deserves. He is still in fantastic form and although winning once this year, he should have won one or two more if things had gone his way, or the jockeys had put him in the right place. We have one runner tomorrow with Ixchell running in the 7f maiden fillies’ race at Newmarket. I am not sure about the ground for her and with all this rain it will be very soft. It will be an introduction though and it always does them good to see colours and the racetrack.

It is a great weekend of racing with the Breeders’ Cup in America and the start of the Flemington Carnival in Australia. It will all be on TV and along with the final of the Rugby World Cup, it will be a great sporting weekend.

Getting lots of reasurrance now the rider is on

The sooner the levy agreement is sorted out the better for everybody as they will know what money is available for next year, but it is all combined with the new sponsorship agreements and overseas betting tax. The bookmakers will be fighting their corner, but this is one fight we have to win to put the industry on a good financial footing. It is very top ended at the moment with under 5% of the owners at the top and the vast majority competing for the rest. The sooner the finances are sorted and it is fair for all, the better.

Comrade Bond

For all those of you who knew Phil Green it’s his birthday today and we would just like to wish him many happy returns from all the team.
