It was bright first thing

''In taking revenge, a man is but even with his enemy but, in passing it over, he is superior.''

Sir Francis Bacon

Number One Guy

It was bright first thing but, as I left the stud at 5.55am, there was a ground frost and it was pretty cold. I don't think that it is going to get much better all day and, as usual, I shall be taking a coat to Yarmouth. The horses have been doing good, healthy canters this morning and tomorrow's runners had pipe-openers.

Red Barcelona

Five runners today, starting at Beverley. We run Captain Clint in the 3.30pm, he ran well on his re-appearance at Yarmouth and, if he handles this completely different track, he should be thereabouts today. In the 5.00pm, we run Power of Dreams, he progressed all last year and ran a very sound race on this type of ground at Leicester, he should stay the trip and, once again, if he handles the track, he must be in with a shout.

Bertie Smalls

At Warwick, we run Watch Chain in the 2.40pm, he ran a very sound race at Yarmouth last time to be third, he is drawn not too badly and is another that will not be far away. My only doubt is that I have always thought that he is a five furlong horse but this is a sharp, easy six and we will know for sure after today.

Kathleen Francis

At Yarmouth, we run Miss Wendy in the 3.50pm, this looks a very competitive contest for the very poor prize money on offer; Miss Wendy ran well on her final outing last year, when she finished behind two very good horses at Kempton, she has been very slow to lose her coat this spring and is, only just now, starting to come to herself, she did a nice piece of work last week and it will be interesting to see how she runs this afternon, I am more hopeful than confident. Locum runs again here in the 4.50pm, he won here two weeks ago and should have another sound chance today.
