The two year olds working on the Summer gallop

Do it well or not at all.''

Colzium (Maria), Old Boy Ted (Ashley) and Star Commander (Zezhavz)

Plenty of rain overnight and the grass has really freshened up this morning. All my normal jockeys appeared on time and we did some good work with a group of two year olds around the bend on the Summer gallop. Usually, at Newmarket most of the work is done in a straight line and it is educational for them to learn to come round a bend. Everything moved well, some of them had a real good blow and all of them will improve for it. There will be a few of them appearing next week at Yarmouth and the next Newmarket meeting.

Ice Magic (Pat Cosgrove) and Munro's Dragon (Holly)

We had a very good lunch yesterday in London, courtesy of Ladbrokes, who are sponsoring the St. Leger on Saturday. It was interesting to hear all the connections' opinions of their chances and quite a few are ground dependent like ourselves but everybody is hopeful of winning the final classic. I think it is a fantastic race and this year's is especially competitive. Ted is in as good form as I can have him and the more rain the better.

Battery Power (Michelle), Cat Island (Nicki) and Astromagick (Liam Jones)

It is racing at Laytown today in Ireland with the first race at 5.00 pm, when the tide is as far out as it can be. For those of you who have not seen it, turn on 'At the Races' and watch, better still if you live in Ireland, get in your car and go, as it is a unique spectacle and well worth a visit. It is disappointing that the round course is not really in action but, I suppose, horses splashing through big pools of water is now thought highly dangerous. It is something that needs constant support to preserve it.
