"They say that age is all in your mind. The trick is keeping it from creeping down

into your body."

Astrosecret leading back into the yard

It's another beautiful morning although it's much colder with a reasonable breeze. I've soon got warm though as I have been running behind yearlings in the lunge ring. The horses have had a mixed morning. When we arrived at our chosen canter for first lot there were two horses running loose around it, so we had to change our minds and use a completely different canter. It was much smoother at second lot.

One runner tomorrow at Liverpool in the first race at 12 o'clock. Bracken Brae runs in the three year old fillies' listed hurdle. She ran very well first time out to finish third and schooled well again this week. I am hoping for a good show from her tomorrow.

I see three betting firms have signed deals with the BHA - Betfair, bet365 and 32Red. It's a good start and let's hope all the bookmakers now come to the table and talk to the BHA  so we can all move forward together. I don't know why we have to have these high stakes standoffs when we all could be working towards a better future.

It just shows the ups and downs of a jump jockey's life. Only the day before I had watched Paul Maloney sit tight over the last couple of fences when winnning at Lingfield and everyone was talking about what a great season he was having with 45 winners so far, when the very next day he had a bad fall  at Ludlow. He broke his leg in three places and has to be operated on, but it's not straight forward and he is having a problem finding the right hospital to get it done. Let's all wish him a speedy recovery and that he can be operated on quickly. They are hard men these jump jockeys and deserve all the accolades that they get.
