Good cantering morning

It's a very clear morning and it looks as though we shall be having plenty of sun once the light comes up. This weather is amazing and I don't think I can ever remember it being as mild at this time of year. Apparently it's coming up from the Sahara Desert and we've been told to watch out for sand storms. Anyway we've had a good cantering morning on the Rubbing House polytrack and Hamilton Hill. It's all gone well so far.

We've one runner this evening at Chelmsford when Hold Firm runs in the 6.40. His blood was fine and his temperature is holding steady so we shall be letting him run unlike the two yesterday who were both wrong. I have claimed 7 lbs. off him today which should help and if all goes well he must be thereabouts once again.

I see the Chief Executive of Ladbrokes was airing his views last night at an all party group on Racing and Bloodstock in the House of Commons. He was saying that we have to look forward and the grudges of the past have to be set aside. The BHA countered by saying it is not out to settle old scores but looking to the future and that racing is not sustainable if the offshore betting operations make no contribution to the sport. In my opinion the bookmakers and racing have got to work together, and quickly, with fairness on both side if we are to make progress.
