First lot takes a turn on Racecourse side before galloping

A windy morning with quite sharp squalls  and it was spitting with rain as well but the ground is holding up well and we were on the Peat Moss gallop on Racecourse Side first lot. The two year olds are starting to get the idea well and many of them will be appearing on the track shortly.

Cotton Grass (Holly), Finger Spin (Butch) and Astromagick (Nicki)

Four runners today at Yarmouth, starting with Cat Island in the 6 furlong maiden at 1.40 pm. She ran well on her first outing and, I am hopeful, she will finish in the first half again today. Ice Magic runs in the next at 2.10 pm. He has run with credit on all his three runs, I have fitted him with the blinkers for the first time today to make him concentrate and, if they do, he will not be far away. Astrodonna is our next at 3.40 pm; she is a course and distance winner, who always seems to run well here at Yarmouth - let's hope she can do so again today. She is in great form and has schooled well over hurdles recently, which is another avenue we can pursue later in the season. Finally at 5.10 pm, we run Forgotten Army, who is another who has had a few good runs this season without troubling the judge but I think the trip and ground will suit and would be disappointed if he did not show something today.

Astroleo (Michelle), Dazinski (Pat Cosgrove) and an extra

We keep reading about the Champion Stakes moving away from Newmarket to Ascot, so I wish to pin my flag to the mast and state this just an idiotic idea. To move a race run on a straight course, usually on easy ground, to a course with a bend and a short straight, on ground you can only describe as variable, is barmy. But if they do get this idea through, please, please change its name because it will never be the Champion Stakes. Why not call it 'Racing for Change's Biggest Mistake' race?
