It started off with a hard frost this morning and also we had freezing fog up to about 8 o’clock when the sun started to burn it off. All the horses had ice on their whiskers after they had cantered, but with no real wind, it’s been one of those brilliant winter mornings. We have been mainly cantering on Southfields Round and the Rubbing House polytrack, with both horses and staff in very good form.

We were delighted with Bracken Brae at Wolverhampton, following up under a 6lb penalty. The track didn’t particularly suit her, but she is in great form and was always in command. I hope the handicapper doesn’t put her up too much for this win and that I can have a go at a three timer with her in the future. It is great to get Azure Mist off the mark with this filly and funnily enough she was born on the 29th, a leap year, four years ago.

As predicted we had one foal over the weekend. Astromagick gave birth to a very attractive colt by Charm Spirit. She is a brilliant mother and I have high hopes of her producing something really good for Meg. She was a very useful racehorse herself, was the only foal of a Group 3 winner that we trained and comes from a very good family on the dam side. She couldn’t be by a better horse than Rainbow Quest who has produced broodmares that have been top class, so all in all we can’t wait to get some of her offspring on the track. Her yearling filly by Lawman is held in high esteem by the lads on the stud and the weekend colt is a beauty. We have got another one bursting at the seams and three more in the foaling boxes, so hopefully there will be plenty of news this week.

I see Michael O’Leary of Ryanair, has unleashed broadside against the bookmakers who won’t become approved betting partners. It is a delight when someone like him comes out and says it. In fact he thinks they should pay more because their on line business is more profitable. How right he is and how stupid of the bookies who are holding out not to bite the bullet and get on with it.

I am very sorry for those people who were trying to view the site on their iPhones or iPads, because, as yet, our website is not compatible to play videos on those devices. It will be rectified in the very near future as we want to try and put more videos on the site and change a few things around. It is a bit too high-tech for me, but we know a man who can do it.
