Two runners today at Lingfield

Careless Rapture and Topaling in the rain

It’s a damp morning which seems to have got worse as the time has gone on, with plenty of rain at present. The temperature has held up well though and it is quite mild. I think this rain is forecast to soon move through and then it is just a mixture of showers for the rest of the week. We have had quite a busy morning with the horses, working on the Rubbing House Polytrack and all has gone well so far.

We have two runners today, both at Lingfield. Peeps is our first runner in the 3.10.  There are only four runners and all four have got a sound chance. It will be a tactical run race. I am hoping the blinkers will work the oracle again and it’s not beyond the bounds of possibilities that she will get her head in front today. Our other runner is Blue Bounty in the 4.40. He broke his maiden 10 days ago, over the same track and distance, and being drawn well today helps. He shouldn’t be far away once again.

I was listening to the radio this morning which was telling me Willie Mullins was going to have around 60 runners at the Cheltenham Festival. This just goes to show how the big trainers have become so dominate, both over jumps and on the flat. The big trainers are getting bigger and the smaller to middle trainers are struggling. It is all to do with prize money and the economy. If the prize money was what it should be, new owners would be attracted, but the way it is at the moment, it is very hard to entice new owners in to the game. I think the time for talking has come to an end and we need plenty of action to sort this situation out.
