We are going to Lingfield today with two runners

"The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain."

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

We woke up this morning to torrential rain and wind. It has continued on for most of the morning and the lads have been absolutely brilliant, keeping on so cheerful when riding out. All stable staff need congratulating, as days like this are never nice and the effort that is put in behind the scenes is not seen, or understood, by the general public. I think the forecast is for it to clear up gradually and then get warmer towards the end of the week, and let’s hope they are right as we could do with a dry, warm spring. We have been cantering very close to the yard this morning on Hamilton Hill and all, so far, has gone well.

It's a very wet morning

We have two runners today, both at Lingfield. Our first runner is Topalova in the 3.40, the mile and a quarter maiden. She ran just over two weeks ago and was not disgraced with a subsequent winner already coming out of the race. We have got a bad draw today in eight and she was slowly away last time. I think a first four finish is hopeful, rather than assured. Topaling is our other runner at 4.40, the two mile handicap. I have put cheekpieces on her today just to give her something to think about and they will either work well, or have the complete opposite effect. She didn’t run too badly last time, although behind a couple of today’s runners, but was not beaten very far and if getting a reasonable run, could certainly have a chance of being in the frame.

Walking back into a rain soaked yard

It is great to see the Grand National getting the new sponsor signed up for the next five years. Healthcare company Randox Health have committed to the race for the next five and hopefully 10 years. It is marvellous that The Jockey Club have done the work and got these outside sponsors for the major races and it goes to show that racing has a great appeal and can do so much for companies that invest in our sport. Who had heard of Investec before they sponsored the Derby and now their name is widely known as a brand. I hope this is a springboard for more sponsors ahead.

On cold, wet days Bob always finds the warmest place to be

There are several new horses for sale both outright, in shares, or for syndication at varying prices, even one is free, just pay the monthly training fees, on the site today. Please take a look and if you are at all interested, please get in touch with me direct or with the office for further details, or to come and view. They really are a good bunch and should appeal to a wide range of owners.
