They are not children ...

Day two of the Aintree Festival

The Guv'nor giving his instructions before exercise

There was plenty of rain once again last night and it is still a bit mizzily this morning, but I am pleased to say the wind has dropped so it doesn’t make it as cold. It’s a Friday morning so I have been working several horses Across the Flat on the turf, which is in very good condition. All has gone well and one or two have really impressed me. If I can just keep them all healthy and sound and put them in the right races, keep being patient, have the right jockeys, it looks like we will be having an exciting season.

Sing Me Sing Me and Sant'Elia

We have had another late night as Battery Power produced a beautiful filly foal by Sea the Moon at 12.40 this morning. Both mother and daughter are doing well and that’s two in two days, with only one more to go and she is due on the 19th of this month. Astrodonna’s foal is a lovely dark brown / black colour and has already been out in the paddock with her mother. Battery Power’s is a very attractive, strong filly and if looks are anything to go by, she should be a cracker.

The Guv'nor receing feedback from the riders

I had a great day yesterday and thank you once again for all the cards and presents that everybody sent. The boys and girls, both in the yard and the stud enjoyed sharing a cake with me and all in all it was a very enjoyable day.

Our Aintree tipping competition got off to a great start with Richard and me giving you four winners and some places between us. However, I think he was very lucky to keep the race he won his money on, as the winner certainly crossed the horses that looked like winning the race, but that’s racing and one day it goes your way and then the next the other. It is like short heads. Our tips for today are below and we will be putting tomorrows up in the morning with our Grand National selections, which we will pick three in the big race, all to a £5 each way stake. Its ladies day today at Liverpool which for those of you who have never been will be something to see, where people will have plenty to drink and there might me a few sights at the end. Limerick has just had a student’s day and that sounds like it was completely out of control. It is all well and good giving students free entry, but when they behave as badly as a lot of these seem to have done (please read page 37 of the Post) you can quite see why it would put off ordinary race goers. A balance must be struck between having a good time and abusing the system.
