A mixed evening at Lingfield

It's another very wet, cold, and windy day. I don't know what the forecast is for the rest of the week, but it's not good for these horses to keep getting wet one minute and warm the next. It's been a really mixed morning work wise with two going through the stalls, some cantering across the flat and the rest on Hamilton Hill.

Prayer Time

We had a mixed evening last night at Lingfield where we took Astrosecret to pass her stalls test, which she did with flying colours. Then Sweeping Beauty misbehaved in the stalls and had to be withdrawn. It was very disappointing after all the hard work that has gone on, and I put it down to the other horses in the stalls who were playing up and giving her a reason to do so too. She walked in perfectly but it took an age to load the last one who in the end was also withdrawn. She will have to pass a stalls test now and next time we run she will be going in last.

It was interesting to read today in the Racing Post that the four supplementary entries for the Derby paid £75,000 each but only £54,000 of their entry goes into the prize-money pool and Epsom takes the remaining £84,000. The reason given is that the guarenteed race value is £1,325,000 with a guarentee to make up any shortfall. Once again owners are being hit in the pocket by the racecourses. It seems to me, and I'm sure it does to any sensible person, that the whole of the supplementary figure should have gone into the prize money pot.
