It’s a still morning and the temperature is on the low side. There are some big black clouds in the distance and I think it will be showery once again later on. Everybody is in great form after last night’s double and although we do have one non-runner once again in the yard, everybody is in top form. We have kept close to home with the cantering, and Hamilton Hill followed by a pick of grass has been the exercise today.

It was a great night at Chelmsford last night, with a massive turn out of owners for Desert River and I don’t think they have ever had as many in the winner’s enclosure or the hospitality room. I think you could have heard the victory shout in Brighton when Desert River went by the post in front. Dot Green coasted up under a confident ride from Darryll Holland and she is an exciting prospect. The form of her Ascot maiden is working out unbelievably well and I will be studying the programme book carefully for future races.

We have three runners today, starting this afternoon at Chelmsford with Heavensfield in the 4.45, the one mile six furlong handicap. I was a bit disappointed with the starting handicap mark we got, and I think her run at Newmarket is the one they are taking it on, but giving weight away to at least three winners will be tricky today. Saying that, she has plenty of talent, will only improve and we will learn a lot today. We then move to Lingfield tonight. Blue Bounty is our first runner at 6.15 in the five furlong handicap. This looks more his level, he is drawn well and I am sure he will be there or there about once again. Permera is our final runner at 7.50, the one mile four furlong fillies handicap. She ran well at Beverley but has had to have a little bit of time off since as she didn’t eat much for a few days. She now seems in great heart and we are hopeful of a good run tonight, although there are one or two unexposed fillies in this race.

The boxes are parked up ready to go off racing today

It was another fantastic day at Ascot and a great showcase for British racing. The Queen Mary was won by the American filly, Lady Aurelia, in what can only be described as unbelievable fashion. To quicken like she did off a fast pace left you dumbfounded and it will be interesting to follow her progress in the following months. I am starting to get behind in the tipping competition, but there are still three days to go and can turn around in an instant. Our tips for today are below:
