It started off bright sunshine this morning, but as the time has gone on, high clouds have drifted in and it looks like it’s going to be a slightly overcast day from now on. They are still refurbishing the Rubbing House polytrack so we have been close to home on the Hamilton Hill canter, although we did take three horses up to the schooling ground and met Robbie Dunne for first lot. We have an all-weather strip at this time of year to school on and it is certainly another great asset to the heath.

Astrosecret ran ok yesterday, they went no pace and it turned into a bit of sprint. I am sure there will be plenty of future winners to come out of this race, including us, and we will need a bit further and a more galloping track to been seen at our best.

It is the start of the July sales here at Newmarket today with the town having a vast influx of visitors and buyers from all over the world. This sale always coincides with the July Festival, culminating with the July Cup as the high light on Saturday. The ground is good, good to firm and unbelievably the clerk of the course is saying he will water to maintain! You just couldn’t make it up. All the fast ground horses have been waiting for some dry ground and then these clowns water. We have a few horses in the sales on Friday and it will be interesting to see what the market is like. It is a very big catalogue, full of a cross section from mares and foals to horses in training. There is something for everybody as usual at this sale.
