We have had a little bit of rain overnight and as I write this it is very overcast and a good drizzle is coming down, in fact it has started to get heavier this last half hour. It will certainly dampen the dust and I won’t have to water the plants today. It is very welcome rain and the temperature is much easier to work in. I have kept the horses close to home once again and everything has gone very smoothly. I could do with one new member of staff, but the ones I have got are working brilliantly.

We have one runner tonight at Leicester. Time Down Under runs in the six furlong maiden at 7.50. One or two of these have shown some form and the unraced ones could be anything. He will be handicapped after today’s run whatever happens, but he is in good form and let’s hope he can show a bit more this time.

It was very sad to hear about the death of JT McNamara in Ireland this week. It puts into perspective how dangerous this game can be and it can happen to anybody, at any time. I didn’t know JT at all, but have watched him from afar and although he was an amateur, he was masquerading as a professional. A brilliant horseman, he was held in very high esteem by all the best judges. Our condolences go to all his family.
