We have one runner today at Kempton

Topamichi and Dot Green

It’s a bright sunny morning and the perfect temperature once again. Horses have been cantering close to home and the staff have been working like Trojans. We could do with one or two more permanent riders and I am sure they will turn up in the next few weeks. The forecast is for a few good showers as the week goes on, but generally it is going to continue warm.

Careless Rapture with Astrosecret

We have one runner today. Careless Rapture makes her seasonal debut at Kempton in the 5 o’clock. She has had all sorts of things to stop her running, but we have now got her in great condition, and although she will need this first run, I am sure the trip will suit her and we will start to see her ability.

Owners on the stud at the weekend

There is a thought provoking article on drugs in the Racing Post today with the big commotion about the Russian Olympic team this year. It is certainly worth a discussion. Andre Fabre and Criquette Head are two French trainers’ very anti-drugs and will not use them in their normal training routine either. Lasix is the big drug the majority of American trainers use. It is an anti-bleeding drug and is in constant use, both in training and on race days over there. The problem once again is that America haven’t got one jurisdiction that cover the whole country, each state has its own rules and so there can be no blanket ban. But, unlike the Olympics, which is supposed to be drug free, you can use anything at the Breeders Cup Festival. This is another example of uniforming the rules worldwide. For the life of me I can’t see why this can’t happen.
