Old Boy Ted and Colin pull out first lot on a dark, autumn morning

"If your strength is small, don't carry heavy burdens. If your words are worthless, don't give advice."

- Chinese Proverb

Another damp morning with plenty of rain on-and-off all day yesterday but it is not cold and there is no wind, so the waterproof trousers are still hanging up. We have taken the first two lots across the Flat on Racecourse side, where the ground is just on the easy side of good. Everything moved well and the two year olds, which have been on the backward side, are now nearly ready to make their first racecourse appearances. I am sure the ground on the racetrack will be very similar and it looks in great shape - I just hope he does not water it!

Smokey Oakey (Steve)

Our first runners at Ffos Las both made the frame, which helps pay for the long journey - and it is a long way - at least two hours in a horsebox, after you have crossed the bridge into Wales. Iain reported that everything went smoothly and everybody was very helpful - that is all you can ask, when a new project is started. If only Great Leighs had had the same people behind it because it is so disappointing that it failed from lack of investment and foresight, as it was a god-send to Newmarket trainers and their owners with very low transport costs and a good surface on the track. I am sure, in time, there must be an all-weather track built in Newmarket, as it would be very popular. There are several places it could be built without touching the gallops.
Dazinski stayed on well yesterday and it was nice to see him perform better after his last outing. Cornish Beau did not finish 100% sound but I think he just knocked a nerve, as he seems much sounder this morning and, I am sure, he will be back and running again shortly.

A thought for the day. Don't you think it would be a good idea if David Cameron offered David Miliband a job? Just an idea but I think he would make a good coalition foreign secretary.
