We have one runner this evening at Chelmsford

Our children teach us what life is all about."

Warming up before exercise

It was dark but bright when I left home this morning, but as I came into Newmarket there were some bands of rolling mist and it has been on and off like that for most of the morning. We have still got a reasonably high temperature, but if you are caught in the mist it drops quickly. We have had a busy morning already with horses cantering on the Rubbing House polytrack and the stud has been moving the in foal mares back from the outlying farm. Everything has gone smoothly.

Dot Green

We have one runner this evening at Chelmsford. Permera runs in the 6.20, the one mile six furlong handicap and I have just put some cheekpieces on to make her concentrate. Her blood was very good last night so I am hopeful that she will run well, but we are still getting one or two new ones coughing and we can only hope that she is completely clear. Harry Bentley takes the ride.

Bracken Brae

I see Yarmouth have given £250 compensation to the connections of the runners who had a wasted trip when the five furlong race was called off this week. This money falls well short of what it takes to cover the cost and there needs to be somebody at the BHA, or the racecourse association, who can be independent when such things happen and award a proper amount to connections. It would be at least double that, if not treble from Lambourn and the National Trainers Federation should be doing something about it. Our federation needs to be much stronger in many cases as I think the executives tend to seek the middle ground rather than fight for who are keeping them in a job.
