Walking to the gallops

It’s a lovely bright morning but the breeze makes it feel quite chilly. I think it is time to start wearing my thicker jackets now. The horses have been going in various directions today, including Southfields Round and Hamilton Hill. So far so good and everything has gone very well. I don’t want to tempt fate, but the horses are looking great and I have heard no coughing this morning.

I love the Arc and, although as I think I said before it will be different being at Chantilly, I am sure it will still be a great race. What a shame it isn’t on terrestrial television as the diehard racing fans who do not have the racing channels will miss out. Let’s hope the English runners do us proud and Postponed can get his head in front. With the likes of the Irish entries of Found, Order of St George and Harzand, this should be a fantastic contest. If the ground stays good there will be no excuses and everybody will have a fair chance.

I am glad to say that the weaning has gone extremely well at the stud and all the foals are completely settled and relaxed now. It is amazing that the yearlings will be coming into the yard soon and the weanlings will be moving over the road to Deer Park. They will spend the winter there and already they are maturing well.

Tomorrow is the first of October and the ‘Frankland Fasters’ only have the next four weeks to achieve their goals and lose the final few pounds. I am still waiting for the stragglers at the back of the field to prove their worth and sprint up the final straight. We need to raise as much in sponsorship for our two excellent causes as we can. If you look on the Competition Page you will see how to send your donations in. As I have said before 100% of all the money collected will be divided equally between Riding for the Disabled and the Thoroughbred Retraining Centre.  It’s not too late to join in and if you wish to add your name to the dieters list please contact Di at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call the office on 01638 661434. She can also help with any sponsorship forms required.
