We have two runners tonight at Chelmsford

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."

Marcel Proust.

Walking to the start of the gallop at first lot

It started off much darker this morning when we pulled out at a quarter to seven and the days are really starting to get shorter both ends. We have been cantering very close to home on Hamilton Hill with two good heathy canters. Everything has been moving well and once again no coughers. I really think we are starting to get out of the mire at last.

We have two runners today both tonight at Chelmsford. Our first runner, Lost The Moon, is at 7.55 the mile and a quarter maiden. This looks quite a good maiden with every big trainer having runners and some very good pedigrees to boot. We ran much better last time, but I think she might have too much on her plate tonight against some of these. At least she will be handicapped, which will be the route we will be taking afterwards, but you never know.

Our other runner is Sant’elia in the 8.55. Her best run was here at this track but she has had all sorts of growing problems and we are now able, at last, to train her consistently. She is upped in trip a lot tonight, which should suit and let’s hope she can put up a good show.

Astrowizard leading Heavensfield on Hamilton Hill

It is good to see Hereford reopen once again and they are staging their first meeting for a few years after shutting down in 2012. It has been ticking over with a few Arab meetings and point to points I think. These courses like Fakenham, Sedgefield etc. are the centre of the community and are very well supported by all the locals. It was a shame it shut down in the first place and I think but for the problem with the housing planning permission it wouldn’t be reopening today. It is a shame Folkestone will not be going the same way as the planned housing development, which would have helped the track, was turned down by the council. The course is being used at the moment for construction traffic who are building a new lorry park by the M20. I think the local council want to build a new garden city of 12,000 homes and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the course being used as part of that development.
