We have one runner tonight at Chelmsford

"Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction."

A misty start over Newmarket

Once again there is no wind which certainly keeps it much warmer. There were bands of mist across the heath this morning at first lot, but they have quickly disappeared as the sun has come up. We were using Southfields Round polytrack canter at first lot and second lot I took an older horse and three unraced two-year-old fillies across to the stalls to see them for the first time. All went very well, in fact it was perfect and it is amazing that in over 30 years of training only this year have I had a tricky one or two. I cannot remember having many stalls tests and I am sure you would not need one hand to count the number.

Standing quietly in the stalls .....

..... ready to jump out

The draw and the very heavy boggy ground beat Sandwood Bay yesterday as she had to be used up early on to gain her position, but then once let down couldn’t quicken in the quagmire. Astrowizard had no help by his draw either and just trundled around at the back.

We have one runner tonight at Chelmsford in the 8.20, the two mile race. Permera runs over that trip for the first time. She did not fair too badly last time when she was fourth, this trip should suit and let’s hope she can run well tonight.

A level break

And cantering away

It has been an amazing three days of sales once again in October 2, the price is way up and you need at least £100,000 just to buy anything sensible. Most of these horses are way over priced and it would be fascinating to do a report on them in a couple of years’ time. The Maktoum family once again have been right to the fore and there must have been over 150 horses at least gone to one family. It is October 3 today and there are still some very nice horses. It would be interesting to see how the market is for them.
