Red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning

It’s been a showery weekend with one or two heavy downpours and some really good sunrises. Today is bright, not too cold, and very little wind. I think that is the forecast for most of the week, although the temperature is due to drop from Wednesday onwards. We have been mostly on the Rubbing House and Southfields Round polytracks with the horses today and we should be having a few runners as the week goes on.

I see the sports minister has told the racing and betting industry that she intends to set the rate at 10% of gross profits under the new levy replacement system. This is certainly good news for the racing industry, but the bookmakers will not like it. Our leaders have got to hold firm now and not take a backward step. We have got to work with the betting industry as we are all one, but it has been one way traffic for a long time and this decision, if it goes through properly, will assist tremendously to help rebalance the situation. I am sure there will be a lot of twists and turns along the way, but it looks a good start to me.

We bought three colts last week at the yearling sales, which we are delighted with and they are just having a short break before coming into the yard with the homebred ones to start their education on being a racehorse. We have got several for sale, either wholly or in partnerships and we will be running a new Raceworld partnership again this year. Keep an eye on the website for details.

It’s only a couple of weeks now to go for the Great Frankland Fast and I hope everybody is putting in a determined effort. I know I am. I was reading some diet advise the other day and it is easy really, just eat less!!
