One runner today at Yarmouth

Topamichi at first lot

Topalova and Sweeping Beauty

We have had a very mixed morning weather wise, there was a marvellous red sky once again at first lot, followed by a rainbow and then we have had quite a few heavy showers. It’s not cold though mainly because of the very light breeze. I have had two lots of horses doing faster work on the turf this morning Across The Flat in front of the racecourse. All has gone as I wanted.

Pulling up into the sunrise

We have one runner today at Yarmouth. Bracken Brae returns after a long layoff, 187 days since her last run at Chelmsford. She is a big, scopy, strong filly who did well last winter and was placed third over hurdles as well. She has not shown the same sort of ability on the turf as she has on the all-weather, but this race today will put her straight as she may need a bit further and the ground will certainly be softer than she likes.

Gee Sixty Six and Mr Turner

I see the bookies are already questioning the new levy replacement system rate that has been put forward by the government. I hope this doesn’t go on and on and on and that everybody can agree and just move forward. It would be much better for everybody concerned, including the bookmakers, if they did.

Hold Firm leading Stellekaya and Thalissa

It will be very interesting to see how the new ITV racing team presents the new programme and it looks to me like they have the potential to attract a new audience if they get the presenters in the right slots. I think Jason Weaver and Luke Harvey are good together and have great banter, with Jason actually knowing what happens in the industry and he puts it across in a very good way. I would also like to see more emphasis on the horses, rather than on the betting side.
