We have one runner today at Redcar

"The simple lack of her is more to me than others’ presence."

Sandwood Bay

It’s a mild, bright morning and it has been very hectic right from the start. We have had one or two non-runners staff wise and we have got vacancies for every type of job, from yardman, stable staff, stud hand, and part-time evenings. If anybody is interested, please give the office a ring. All the lads have been working well and the horses have had a good exercise on Hamilton Hill. The two that are in the sales tomorrow have now gone up, and we are nearly finished our steam cleaning and painting, which is now onto the last eight boxes. I am sure this will be of great benefit to us.

Topamichi had ever chance on Saturday but just failed to fire, but Regal Galaxy ran a cracker to be second and there is certainly a race in her if we don’t sell her this week. Today we have one runner at Redcar with Heavensfield running in the one mile six furlong race at 3.55. She wears a hood for the first time and I think she will certainly like the track and the ground. She has 9st 6lb to carry, but I am hopeful of a good run.

Lost The Moon

It is the first day of the Horses In Training sale here in Newmarket this week where there will be any number of overseas customers, plus the home brigade trying to buy horses of varying abilities and sorts. We are selling two tomorrow and a few on Thursday and let’s hope they find good homes at the right price. They are all sound, with some recent form.

I was smiling to myself about the wild boar on the gallops at Chantilly. They have done quite a bit of damage and the gallop is closed until they can repair it. We get a lot of rooks on the heath here which scavenge for a certain beetle, especially on the peat moss gallops and they have had to be specially repaired at times.
