Set your alarm for the morning

The sky over Chelmsford racecourse at the weekend

It’s very mild once again and according to the Countryfile forecast, cold weather is on its way with a northerly wind and by the end of the week it will be more like autumn. Certainly the leaves are coming down in droves now and one good wind will see them nearly all off. It’s misty again and it has been lingering around for most of the morning and we have kept very close to home with two good canters on Hamilton Hill.

Bracken Brae

Our one runner over the weekend Permera, didn’t really sparkle although she wasn’t beaten that far. She has got to pull her socks up and we will be trying her at Kempton which is right handed and I think over a mile and a half. We will be having very few runners this week. We have declared two for Wednesday at Kempton and we will be taking the bloods to check all is ok.

You must set you alarms for ten to four tomorrow morning as it is the Melbourne Cup live on At The Races at 4 o’clock. There are at least eight runners from Europe trying to get the Australian dollars from our colonial friends. Let’s hope one of them can do it but this race always throws up a story and there may be one lingering in amongst them. I quite like the look of number nine, Almoonqith, although he is drawn 19 which is not the world’s best draw. I also like another Aussie one in Almandin. It is a fantastic race to watch as they will go flat out down the straight, slow it up down the back side by the river and then all hell will let loose once turning for home. This race stops both Australia and New Zealand and everybody has a Melbourne Cup day off with barbeques and parties. If only our Derby could do this. It used to do, but now it just seems to be another race. I think it is something to do with the culture of the country.

Velvet Voice

Our big weight loss campaign ends tomorrow and we will soon be giving you the final amounts lost by all competitors. Let’s hope then we can raise a great amount for the charities. I certainly have lost quite a lot and although can’t wait to have a wagon wheel, will be keeping going for a short while. I do feel tons better for losing the weight and being for a good cause, it is even better.
