"Dance till the stars come down from the rafters

Dance, Dance, Dance till you drop."

W. H. Auden.

The yard this morning and the lights are all on

It’s quite a sunny start to the day after what was a very damp night and we could see the supermoon once again as the clouds blew away this morning. It has been amazing seeing the moon so close and so bright. Let’s hope it changes our luck and we have a great season ahead. It has been a hectic morning already with plenty of cantering on the polytracks racecourse side and I have been helping David and all the stud lads move the foals from one side of the stud to the other. They were all brilliantly behaved and it is a great credit to them all.

First lot and the moon is still out ...

... and it is not just any moon, it is a supermoon

I see the Tote along with Betfred, Corals and Ladbrokes have signed a deal with the Hong Kong Jockey Club to bet into the Tote pools from their online platforms. There will be no fixed odds betting and it will only be one way, but the pools are enormous and it will be interesting to see how it all goes. I am just thinking out loud after reading the article in the Racing Post, but I suppose because it is not our racing, there will be no benefit to the racing industry here. It looks like there will just be the chance for British punters to win big, but no help for our industry. I may be wrong but that’s how it reads to me. The bookmakers are brilliant at this and with the Racing Post helping them with the cards and form on a similar basis to our meetings, it can only help their profits and decrease ours as there is only so much gambling money to go around.

It’s great news that Freddy Tylicki is out of intensive care and moved to a general spinal ward. He has got a long road ahead but I am sure a man with his determination will get through it with all the support he will get from everybody. The whole of racing, which is a big family, are wishing him all the best and sending their full support.
