The sky over Newmarket this morning

It’s a very mild morning as I predicted and as we write this the sun is trying to come out and warm us up even more. It’s been another busy morning with horses going off in all directions as we have runners at two meetings today. All the others have been kept close to home and everything has gone smoothly so far. We are getting on well with the breaking and there have been several more with riders on their back.

Pulled out and ready to go to exercise

We have three runners today, two this afternoon at Lingfield and one tonight at Kempton. Starting at Lingfield our first runner is Topaling who reappears quickly in the mile and a half handicap at 1.35.  She has had two quick runs and is now much fitter. This trip still may be on the short side for her, but she has won twice over this course and distance and I don’t think she will be far off today, if she decides to do it. Our other runner, Hold Firm, is in the last the hands and heels race at 3.35. He didn’t get much of a run the last time out at Wolverhampton and could be competitive in this sort of race.

We then move on to Kempton where Bracken Brae steps up to two miles in the 7.15. She has got one or two horses to contend with here and is not drawn well in 11, but she is super consistent, will have improved a bit from her last victory and must be in with a chance.

Making their way back to the yard

There has been plenty of excitement in Ireland with the top greyhound being kidnapped with shades of the Shergar incident coming to mind. It all ended very quickly though with the dog being found safe and well and four men in custody being questioned. It will be fascinating to find out the reason behind this bizarre incident and I can’t wait for the official outcome.
