The turf season is just around the corner ...

It's a cold, bright morning

Wallking home after second lot

It’s a very similar morning to yesterday, cold, bright and once again thankfully no wind. Everything is ticking over as it should do in the yard with everybody working very well. We do still need a few new members of staff so if there is anybody out there that would like a good job, just give us a ring. We want full-time riders in the yard and a stud person at Dullingham.

I see my comments yesterday on social media have been highlighted by one or two jockeys who said they received terrible comments through this type of platform, wishes of death and broken legs have been two of the comments. They hide behind their comments from faceless keyboards and the only thing to do is to just ignore it. I know it is hard to do in this instant world of ours, but they are very much in the minority and to my mind need help.

It was great to see horseracing as the second largest spectator sport behind football with rugby relegated to third. I think the rugby had only got in front of them last year with the World Cup being in England. It always amazes me how little coverage the newspapers give such a well watched sport. You get pages and pages of rugby and football but only a small amount on racing. You even get more tennis. I am not complaining too much though as we have our dedicated newspaper, plus two daily TV programmes and ITV, who are now getting their act together. The interesting figure to come out of the day to day numbers was that Sundays attendance was much less than the Friday and comparable with Thursday, meaning the great song and dance we had about Sunday racing has been an abject failure in Britain. I think they thought that the Irish and the French, who get good figures, were the examples, but it seems not. Let’s hope, and I know we will do, have less Sunday racing in future.
