We had to go a different route due to the traffic

Galloping on the Cambridge Road polytrack

It’s another cold morning and the frost hasn’t come out of the ground at all. We galloped on the Cambridge Road polytrack first thing, but had to approach it from a different way as the actual road itself was closed as there had been an accident by what we call the July cottages. I think a few cars had run into one another and the police had shut the road. Our piece of work went well though and everybody was pleased with their individual rides. Second lot we had three three-year-olds old through the stalls again which went as well as could be expected and the others are staying on Hamilton Hill doing two canters.

The traffic jam through Newmarket this morning

Hold Firm was fourth yesterday at Wolverhampton only beaten a couple of lengths. He is only smallish and had top weight. I hope the handicapper gives him some leeway as he always does his best and deserves to get his head in front after some very good efforts. It looks like we will have a couple of runners on Friday but that will be it for the rest of the week.

Indian Red after his practice through the stalls

We have now got a mare overdue at the stud and the foaling boxes are full of early February foalers so it looks like being a hectic time for the next five to six weeks. Mind you the mares are quite sensible and with the cold like it is will be holding on for as long as possible. It is always an exciting time of year at the stud and let’s hope this year we have are a few more colts rather than fillies, but I never really mind as long as mother and daughter are well afterwards
